Last Saturday was my first run in over 3 years. The two miles about killed me. Like I said at the end of that post, I almost threw up. There is nothing like going into a violent coughing fit WHILE driving. Yeah, not nice.
When I started that run, I was talking to a girl and we decided to just run the two miles together. Actually, what happened was I was trying to keep up with her and she took pity on me and ran with me. 🙂 When I decided about 1 mile in that I needed to walk a bit, she ran ahead a little and then came back for me and told me “let’s go.” Ugh!! So, one more walking break (about 10 seconds) and a mile later, we finished our 2 miles. That day I remembered my iphone but not my headphones. Made the run even worse. When we got to the end, I told her that I was having trouble with pacing. She told me the funniest thing.
She told me that she listened to rap music to keep her pace. Later that day, I texted a friend of mine and told him that I needed his help in working up a running mix that consisted of rap. Last night, I received the grooveshark playlist. I LOVED all the songs. This morning, I put about a quarter of the songs (he saved 60 for me) on my phone and headed to the group run. Today was a 3 mile long run. The whole drive, I was dreading it. If I almost threw up after 2 miles and 2 breaks, how was I going to run 3?
We got our instruction and headed out. I started my playlist and paced my running on the beat of the songs. Last week, it took me 30 minutes to do 2 miles. This week, it took me just under 30 minutes to do 3 miles with no breaks. I was at a 10 minute mile! OF SOLID RUNNING!!!! When I felt like I wanted to walk a bit, I just focused on my breathing and pushed through. I feel GREAT!!!
Moral of the story??? Rap music is the bomb! 🙂 HA!
